What Does Love Look Like to You?
Ah, love. It exists in many forms. It is universal, transcending all time and space.
Love is many things to many people, but it is always love.
But what does love look like?
Perhaps you are familiar with a
fairly popular quote about love that is often said at weddings:
“Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy,
it does not boast,
it is not proud.
It is not rude,
it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects,
LOVE NEVER FAILS.”
(1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
Even though we may sometimes fall in and out of love, while we are in it, this is what love looks like, at least that’s what we hope for when we make that deep connection with someone special.
As we grow through life’s many cycles such as teenage, adulthood, old age and all the places in between, love looks like many different things. As we grow, who we are changes, what we need changes, and the way we feel and express love changes too – still, love is always love.
When you love someone deeply you can become empathic to their emotions, you can almost anticipate their needs and tell what’s on their mind before they say it. There is a connection that goes beyond the bounds of the physical realm, and you feel like part of each other.
Love is in Charge
Love can be simple and at the same time challenging. It can be exhilarating and exasperating all at once. Love makes us choose selfless acts over being selfish.
One thing that’s for sure, we do not rule love; love rules us. In this manner, love is very clear. It has no need to hide and, actually, it begs to be shouted about to the world.
Love can show up unexpectedly and unannounced and barge into our lives. Sometimes we may choose to love, and sometimes we have no choice at all in whom we love, it just happens. Love is more powerful than a sudden summer storm and as soft as an air-blown kiss.

When we try to think of what love looks like, it can conjure many different pictures in our heads: A couple holding hands even after 50 years together or two young lovers gazing into each other’s eyes.
Love is a feeling, and so it can manifest in many forms, but it is not hard to see.
When love exists it does give us some clues that it’s there, such as the twinkle in our eyes, the glow on our faces and the pure radiance of love that emanates like a light inside of us. That’s what love looks like.
“True love is like good takeout: 30 minutes later you look for more.”
